Where does the number come from
Gold is traded globally in dollars per troy ounce, which is 31.1034768 grams. To get to the price per gram in NIS, divide the ounce price by this number and multiply by the dollar exchange rate. This is exactly the formula that our calculator displays.
In the institutional market, there is also an official reference price published by the LBMA, London Bullion Market Association. Our calculator relies on public data providers and indicates the source and update time; if data is not available, no estimated number will be displayed in its place.
- XAU/USD ÷ 31.1034768 × USD/ILS
- The price refers to 999 pure gold
- The foreign exchange rate is updated according to a daily publication
Market price versus jewelry price
The market price describes pure gold. A 14K piece of jewellery contains only 58.5% gold, and an 18K piece contains 75%. Therefore, the first step is to calculate how much pure gold is in the item, and only then multiply by the price.
Even after this calculation, a theoretical value is obtained. Old jewellery must undergo melting and refining before it becomes raw material again, which is why the payment to the customer is lower than the theoretical value.
Why the price moves during the day
The gold price changes throughout trading hours, and the dollar exchange rate changes as well. Both factors together can move the price per gram in ILS even when the price in dollars is stable. Therefore, a morning estimate may differ from an evening estimate.
The final offer refers to the price at the time of the inspection. If it is important for you to track, the calculator updates automatically every minute.
How to use the number correctly
Use the reference price to understand the order of magnitude and compare offers, not as a guarantee. Ask every buyer how they weigh, how they test purity, and what deductions they apply. A buyer who explains the calculation is a good sign.
Any price shown on the site is a non-binding estimate. If you are in Ofakim, Beer Sheva, Netivot, or anywhere else — let us know where you are contacting us from, and we will check together if and how an inspection can be arranged. We do not guarantee a specific service area in advance.
