From ounce to 14K gram
Take the price of gold in dollars per ounce, divide by 31.1034768, and multiply by the dollar exchange rate. You have the price per gram of pure gold in ILS. Multiply by 0.585 — and this is the theoretical value for a gram of 14K.
This calculation changes all the time, so we will not display a fixed number here. Our calculator does it in real-time.
Why different numbers are online
Some sites display a price for a gram of pure, some display a price for a gram of 14K, and some display a purchase price of a specific shop. Comparing them is misleading if you don't know what each number represents.
The dollar exchange rate used also has an effect.
Price per gram in a sale
A gold buyer pays less than the theoretical value due to refining, testing, and handling costs. Always ask how the amount is calculated, not just what the amount is.
Be sure to compare "payment per gram of pure gold" between buyers, not "price per gram of jewelry".
- Pure price per gram
- × 0.585
- = theoretical value per gram of 14K
Example without fixed numbers
To illustrate without inventing a price, we will denote the price of a pure gram by the letter P. A 14K jewellery gram is theoretically worth 0.585P. A 20-gram chain is theoretically worth 11.7P. If P rises by one percent, the theoretical value of the chain also rises by one percent.
In other words, the value for a 14K gram always moves in the same direction and at the same rate as the price of pure gold — provided that the purity is genuine and the weight is net.
14K gram price in purchase vs. sale
When buying a new 14K piece of jewellery in a store, the price per gram includes labor, design, VAT, and the store's margin, so it is much higher than the theoretical value of the metal. When selling old jewellery, you receive payment according to the metal only, minus processing costs.
This gap surprises many people, but it stems from the fact that in a sale, the labor and design are no longer part of the value.
What to do now
Select 14K in the calculator and enter the weight. The pure gold price per gram is calculated based on XAU/USD divided by 31.1034768 multiplied by the USD/ILS exchange rate. Any price shown on the site is a non-binding estimate.
