The theoretical calculation
Like gold, the world silver price is quoted in dollars per troy ounce. Divide by 31.1034768 to get a price per gram and multiply by the dollar exchange rate. Multiply the result by 0.925 to get a theoretical value per gram of sterling silver.
For example, 100 grams of 925 silver contain 92.5 grams of pure silver. This is the amount that is multiplied by the market price — without a pre-set price.
- Net weight × 0.925 = pure silver
- Pure silver × price per gram = theoretical value
Why the payment is lower
The value of silver per gram is low, so the costs of handling, inspection, and melting constitute a larger relative part of the transaction. In small quantities, the gap in percentages may be significant.
This is not a phenomenon unique to us; it is the market structure. What is important is that the buyer explains the calculation.
What changes the picture
Filling in candlesticks, stones, brass parts, and plating instead of solid silver — all these lower the net weight. On the other hand, a large amount of clean and marked silver is simple to test.
Antique or artistic silver items may be worth more as items than as metal. It is worth examining this before selling as scrap.
Numerical example without fixed price
Let's denote the pure gram price as S. 200 grams of clean 925 silver contain 185 grams of pure silver, and their theoretical value is 185S. If S changes by ten percent, the theoretical value also changes by ten percent.
The example shows how net weight and purity determine the base — and the market price just multiplies it.
Estimate and inquiry
The metal calculator on the site allows an initial estimate according to the business's purchase settings. The reference price on the page comes from the available market source, is displayed with a date and data status, and uses a daily exchange rate. This is a theoretical metal value, not a binding purchase amount; when there is no data, no invented price is displayed. The final offer is given after weighing and testing.
