How the purchase price of old gold is determined

The gap between the gold price on the news and the offer one receives is confusing to many. Here we explain the price structure in general, without secrets and without promises.

Updated:
01

Reference price

The pure gold price per gram is calculated according to XAU/USD divided by 31.1034768 multiplied by the USD/ILS exchange rate. Every price displayed on the site is a non-binding estimate.

In the institutional market, there is an official LBMA reference price. Different buyers use different sources, so it is worth asking what the source is.

02

Amount of pure gold

Net weight multiplied by purity. This is the figure that determines the theoretical value. An error in weighing or purity changes everything.

Therefore, the physical test is the core of the process.

03

The gap from the theoretical value

Old gold needs to undergo melting, refining, and transportation. There are testing costs, risk of price changes, and operating costs. All these create a gap between the theoretical value and the payment.

The gap varies between buyers and types of customers. We do not publish internal parameters, but the calculator shows both theoretical value and estimated payment per pure gram — so you see the gap.

04

What you see in the calculator

The calculator on the site shows all the calculation stages: total weight, deduction, net weight, pure gold, reference price per gram, theoretical value, and estimated payment per pure gold gram. This way you can see exactly where the gap is created.

If the source of the price is not available, the calculator says so explicitly and does not invent a number. In such a case, you can request a personal offer.

05

Why the price on the day of inspection is what determines

The price of gold and the dollar exchange rate fluctuate. An estimate calculated a week ago is not necessarily relevant today — for better or for worse. Therefore, the final offer refers to the data at the time of inspection.

If you are following the price and waiting for a specific moment, remember that no one can predict the market direction.

06

How to compare offers

Compare "payment per gram of pure gold" — this is the fairest metric. Ask to see the weight and purity that were determined.

Every price on the site is a non-binding estimate.

FAQ

What we are asked

The market price refers to refined pure gold. Old gold requires processing that has a cost.

Is the price different for a business customer?

The calculator allows selecting the customer type, and the estimate may change.

Is the price updated?

The reference price refreshes automatically; the final offer is based on the day of testing.
