3D printing for jewelry: resin model, prototype, and everything in between

3D printing does not produce a metal piece directly. It produces a precise model — for checking, measuring, or casting. This understanding saves disappointment and budget.

01

Casting resin vs. inspection resin

Casting resin is designed to burn out in the mold without leaving residues, so it is the basis for casting. Regular resin is more durable and suitable for fitting on the finger, for photography, or for presentation to the client, but not for casting.

It is worth deciding in advance what the purpose of the model is.

02

A prototype is not the final item

A resin model shows shape and proportion, but not the weight, shine, or feel of metal. A metal item will also undergo polishing, which removes a small amount of material and rounds off edges.

Therefore, a prototype is a decision-making tool — not a display of the final result.

What to check in the file

A closed STL file, at the correct scale in millimeters, with sufficient wall thickness and details that are not too thin. Files in other formats may require manual checking.

If you do not have a file, you can start with a custom manufacturing service.

04

Accuracy, supports, and surface

A printed model is built in thin layers and rests on supports. After printing, the supports are removed and the model is cleaned, and at the connection points, there may remain small marks that are handled in the finishing. The position of the supports is chosen so that it affects visible surfaces as little as possible.

Very fine details — shallow engravings, narrow lines, or tiny textures — might disappear or break. Therefore, we check the file and provide feedback in advance when something is close to the limit of the process.

05

Who is this service suitable for

Jewellers who want casting models without owning a printer, designers testing several versions of the same item, and private customers who want to see and measure a ring before it is produced in metal.

You can order just printing or a combined service of printing and casting. When everything is done in one continuous flow, it is easier to ensure the model is suitable for the casting material.

06

Cost and proposal

The printing cost depends on size and quantity. The production calculator on the site gives an initial estimate, and the price list shows starting prices. Material, finishing, shipping, and VAT are not included unless specified.

For an accurate proposal, send a file and details in a quote request.

FAQ

What we are asked

Can I wear a resin model?

For a short measurement, yes; it is not intended for daily use.

What files are accepted?

STL is preferred. Additional formats are checked manually.

Can I print and cast with you?

Yes, there is a combined printing and casting service.

Want to check your project?
